Resilience Through Recovery (RTR) is a new project with Your Neighborhood Museum. RTR aims to build capacity for disaster preparedness in Altadena through partnerships with Altadena community organizations by meeting the current needs of recovery from the Eaton Fire and preparing for a range of future disasters.
RTR aims to:
Support the recovery efforts of people affected by the 2025 Eaton wildfire by working directly with Altadena community organizations.
Build capacity for recovery, disaster preparedness, and rapid response.
Strengthen and investing in community leadership through cohort training opportunities and financial support to grow skills, share knowledge, build networks, and leverage existing resources.

Resilience Through Recovery Program Assistant
Job Title: Resilience Through Recovery Program Assistant
Work Structure: Full-Time, Temporary Position 1.5 years at $23/hr. (Hours and pay negotiable depending on experience)

Location: Hybrid (remote/working from home with in-person collaborative work at our East Hollywood office and site visits in Los Angeles county)

Position Overview
The new Resilience Through Recovery (RTR) Program Assistant is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to the Altadena community and a willingness to develop skills relevant to various aspects of community work. The ideal candidate will possess effective interpersonal and communication abilities, exhibit strong organizational skills, and demonstrate a capacity for forward-thinking in future initiatives.
The Program Assistant will support the two-year Resilience Through Recovery project, which aids recovery for those affected by the 2025 Eaton wildfire by assisting Altadena community organizations and organizers. RTR focuses on building capacity for recovery, disaster preparedness, and rapid response. The program uses culturally relevant approaches for research, outreach, training, and direct support. It strengthens community leadership through targeted training and financial support to develop skills, share knowledge, build networks, and leverage resources. The project will conclude with a series of programs hosted by and for the Altadena community.
RTR follows a mutual aid model to promote long-term sustainability by equipping participants with the skills, networks, and resources needed for ongoing learning, collaboration, and adaptation as community needs change. Partner organizations will join the YNM Community and continue to receive updates and direct support through the YNM network.
Responsibilities/Duties
Support organizational capacity, workshops, and community programs in Altadena.
The position is full-time hybrid (remote and on site). Occasional evenings and weekends are required based on scheduled meetings and listening sessions.
Local travel in and around the greater Los Angeles County area and site visits are required.
Assist with developing and maintaining relationships with organizations, community members/leaders, and public officials on behalf of YNM and the RTR program. This can include individual outreach, attending community meetings, flyering, and other on-the-ground networking, relationship-building, and outreach.
Assist in coordinating the application process for the selection of community organizations to receive support and funding for tailored programming.
Qualifications
Familiarity with and commitment to the communities and community organizations based in Altadena and surrounding areas.
Highly organized
Self starter
Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Strong Listening and Communication Skills
Strong Collaborative Research Skills
Proficiency with Google Workspace, telecommunications, and marketing software such as MailChimp and Squarespace.
